How Will an Online Degree Affect Your Chances of Getting Hired? - MSN Encarta

I recently read this article and have some comments to post.  It's hard to understand exactly how much work goes into getting a degree online until you or someone you know is working on an online degree.  My husband works full-time and is going to school full-time. 

Going to a regular campus was not an option for our family.  If he were to go to college by traditional means he would lose hours at work and would have to step down from his current position due to scheduling conflicts.  He did his research on the different schools and chose Westwood online for graphic design. 

He reads and studies during all his breaks at work and spends several hours each day researching, reading, studying, posting to class discussions and working on projects.  In order to earn the grades that he has (straight A's) he has to work harder than most traditional students because he has to be self motivated and disciplined.  He also has to have a good concept visually.  Could you image taking an art class online without the face to face interaction that a class offers?  Communication and determination is absolutely essential when learning online. 

I think that having an online degree from an accredited school should be considered a bonus for employers when hiring.  A student who earns their degree online shows commitment, self motivation, ability to complete tasks without much supervision, a good grasp on english, comprehension, and technology and someone who is resourceful.  My husband is able to juggle a full-time job, online courses and a 2-year-old daughter and that is impressive to me.

• Our Portfolio is expanding. I pulled aside all of our prints with Isabella and gave the baby her own section. Be sure to check this out as it gives some good examples of our work. Pictures have also been added to our maternity and cheerleading sections with more being added.

•I’ve added an About Us! section. It’s not complete yet, but this is where you’ll go if you want to know more about Steven, Isabella or myself.
